And whew

I got this email yesterday (click the image if you can't read the text). The Hangover Half has been postponed until January 7 because of our extreme, life-threatening cold temperatures. So relieved.

Well crud

I grabbed this screen shot from Weather Underground around 10 this morning. As you can see, we've got extreme cold forecast for the weekend, and that's on top of the bitter cold we have right now (temp was 2F when I drove to work this morning). And don't forget the snow. It's only two inches but super slick.

I just checked the weather again and now the forecast calls for snow on Sunday (bad news for the trail for the half marathon) and the low Sunday night is -6. That's a minus sign.

Not liking my chances for running this half, I'll be honest.

Ding, ding, ding

We have a winner. Jenni, the pet sitter we had come by yesterday for a trial run, sent me an email that said:

Hello,
It was a success! No animals or people were harmed :)

In fact, she emailed a bit later and said Eddie came by while she was scooping the litter just to check her out but didn’t hiss or anything.

I am so very relieved.

Of course then I had to email the Cat Nanny and let her know that we were trying someone else for our vacation later this month. I dislike sending bad news emails but yesterday was a day for just exactly that kind of email, since I had to share reduced contracts and budget cuts with the contractors on my team.

Now I’m working from home because we have a blizzard in Boston.

Home again, home again

Against long odds, our flights didn't get canceled yesterday and we are home, In about an hour, we'll be able to fetch Eddie from the vet's where he's been kenneled. Then Wally will hiss at him for a couple of days because he will smell like the vet's which Wally hates (he even hisses at himself when he gets back from there).

And oh yes, we did get snow in Boston.

December snow

We had some friends over last night for a pot-luck cocktail party. All of them hoped the snow would start while they were there so they could see it from our huge windows. Alas it didn't start until sometime around 2 AM. I got this video about 6:30 AM.

Today's weather

If you listen to NPR in the mornings, then this morning you probably heard the newscaster mention the big storm that stretches from Washington DC up past Boston. I took this picture at about 6:15 AM--yesterday morning the patio was almost entirely clear of snow and the patio table was clear. The snow is coming down pretty steadily so I'm not going anywhere except to shovel later today. Apparently most of the East Coast airports are shut down and have canceled all flights. Good thing Kent left yesterday!

Here's our weather map from NOAA. So I think it's not going to stop snowing before noon.
