It's not until tomorrow but I scanned a couple of pictures of me from my active duty days. I'll be using one as my profile picture on Facebook. I am 20 in both pictures. The thing you see in my mouth in the second picture is my oboe reed and the reason I look like I feel awful is that I did feel awful. I was pregnant although I didn't know it yet. I threw up every day for five months with that pregnancy; if I'd known then how long I was going to be sick, I might have chewed that reed in half.

I can't imagine having a baby that young! I could barely take care of myself. These photos are great! What did you do in the Army? How long did you serve?
Well the oboe reed is a pretty big hint--I was a musician! I served not quite three years active duty (got out on a pregnancy discharge a month before I delivered). Then I had a break in service. I joined the Army Reserves (still as a musician) and served another seven years.
And yes, I was too young. Jeanne and I are the same age! I'm very thankful that neither of my children had children at that age.
FreshHell, have you put it together that Elizabeth and I went to the same high school? We knew each other, but not all that well. As I've told Eleanor and Walker, we were acquaintances because we were together in all the classes for smart kids.
I missed a good opportunity but think I'm making up for it now :-)
nice pictures, never seen those before.
