A reluctant convert

Do you use wish lists for your gift shopping? I've never really liked doing that, not even when Kent and I got married.

In fact, he had to talk me into us creating wedding registries (I refuse to call them bridal registries since we both got married). He pointed out that people would probably want to buy us gifts and they'd probably prefer to get us things we actually wanted. So I went along with it and we created one at William-Sonoma and one at Pier One. Neither were large or contained extravagant gifts but to my shock, everything on both lists was bought. Everything.

This year, I was behind in Christmas shopping and I resorted to using Amazon wish lists for folks on our gift list. I felt like I was cheating, but the recipients sure seemed to like their gifts. Well they did pick them out.

What do you think? Are wish lists good? Bad? Am I silly to feel like I ought to know what someone wants if in fact I'm close enough to them to want to buy them gifts?

Yes, that picture is a wish list of mine. It's for our new little yellow house if you must know and mostly it's so we remember what we want to get in the rush to get moved in.

I cannot navigate your gift list page. Arrows/hands appear, but when clicking, nothing happens.

I have an amazon list for myself, which I mostly use to remember things that I might want. I also have one for my kid, so that I can send it to aunts and grandparents who might want to buy her a present. I rarely buy anything off of someone else's wish list, though I did like that Occupy Sandy set one up to request rubber gloves and other clean-up supplies. I bought from that...

Mom, it's just a picture of my wish list, it's not the actual wish list itself.

I figured that out - went to Amazon and found it.

I don't have a list, but it would make sense. And I've never bought from a list, I think, but it strikes me as a good idea. Mostly, I like the idea of your little yellow house!

growing up, it was a requirement to have a wish list - so it's odd to me that Jamie is not a fan of wish lists. (Turns out he has an amazing memory and remembers the things I point at or say I want.) I, on the other hand, require a wish list to remember what I want! I have a list on Amazon more for me and things I want at some point, but have started one for other people so I remember what they point at;) I do love amazon's list since you can post items from anywhere on the web.
