A pet peeve

So-and-so gifted me blah blah blah.

Um no. No no, that's not what happened. You either received a gift from so-and so, OR so-and-so gave you something.

Please, folks, for the love of God quit turning perfectly good nouns into verbs.

Well obviously it has to be gifting, how else could someone regift something?

This is unsettling. I will go out and plant some plants to get over it.

Jeanne, we may not plant plants, but I may have to go out and help a friend farm his farm...

Oh, I HATE that word. Why does it exist? What is wrong with the perfectly good word "give"? Does "giving" not imply that what you are giving is a gift? This drives me up a tree. Thank you.
