Feathers and catnip

We buy toys for the cats from time to time, although not as often as you might think. That's because they are very good at taking normal items and turning them into toys. For example, the cats play with the Velcro strips, cardboard boxes, milk carton rings and my make up sponge although the sponge generally doesn't survive being turned into a cat toy.

We'd gotten a feather toy with catnip in it about a month ago, and had saved it for a special occasion. Yesterday was that day and here's how Wally responded to the toy.

Love at first lick! Pokey has a similar toy but doesn't play with it much since he's usually sleeping when he's indoors. (Like right now). Do all your cats respond to catnip? Only Pokey and Baby Blue Star like it. Charlie has no reaction. Like he can't smell it or something.

Of the three cats, Wally loves nip the most; when we sprinkle the catnip or when he has a toy like this, he drools like crazy. Chloe also likes it a lot (although not as much as Wally does). Eddie likes it because the other two like it. He'll roll around a bit but he doesn't get absolutely drugged from it.

FreshHell, some cats don't react to catnip, as you have observed.

And sponges as cat toys! I'd forgotten how much our black cat, Chester, always loved to get hold of the hermit crab sponges. Now that I no longer have hermit crabs (gave them away to a first-grader), I could give him the extra sponges!
